The United States get ready to send advanced long-range missile systems to Ukraine, claims an anonymous source in the US administration. The missiles were requested by the Ukrainian authorities, which claim receiving such weapons would mean a breakthrough in the war against Russia.

Ukrainian military and top politicians appealed to the United States to provide the Ukrainian army with MLRS and HIMARS missile systems. They can hit targets several hundred kilometres away and would make a huge difference in fighting Russian forces.

According to CNN, the issue was discussed last week at the White House. The US administration still fears that providing such advanced weapons to Ukraine may be perceived as a provocation by the Kremlin.Despite the concerns, Pentagon representatives have met with the management of Lockheed Martin to discuss the increase in production of MLRS systems.

US Senator Jason Crow, who visited Kiyv recently, told CNN that he believed that advanced missile systems are key to reaching a breakthrough in the war between Ukraine and Russia. He explained that in many cases Russians use conventional artillery to shell Ukrainian cities. Therefore the use of long-range missiles would discourage Russians from utilising these tactics.
