The fact that Armenian MPs were checked as ordinary passengers and kept in line for hours at the Moscow airport caused some stirs.
Defence.az reports citing Armenian mass media that Yerevan was massively dissatisfied with the treatment Russians demonstrated towards the Armenian MPs at the airport. Sasun Mikayelyan, a representative at “Yelk” fraction, notes that Edward Nalbandian is the one responsible for the scandal with the Armenian MPs at the Moscow airport.
He added that the Armenian MPs had also previously been subjected to searches and checks at the Moscow airport, however the issue was swept under wraps for some reason.
The Armenian Speaker Ara Babloyan and other 104 MPs have diplomatic passports. In other words, the airport officers simply do not have the right to treat them as ordinary passengers.
‘If Armenian diplomatic passports are treated in this manner abroad, we cannot simply ignore the fact. The Armenian community has to be aware of the disrespect towards the diplomatic passports. The reason for such treatment is the fact that these diplomatic passports are recently being issued left and right’, stated Armenian media outlets.
The Armenian Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs, Shavarsh Kocharyan, said what happened was unacceptable.
