The Ministry of Unification in Seoul announced on 11 February that the South and North Korean governments will seek to reduce military tensions as part of a move designed to prepare the ground for an inter-Korean summit.

The move follows a three-day visit by a high-ranking North Korean delegation to the South on the occasion of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, which included an invitation for South Korean President Moon Jae-in to visit Pyongyang for talks.

“With regards to North Korea’s invitation, South and North Korea will co-operate to set the conditions and enable President Moon’s visit to North Korea,” said the ministry in a statement.
