Azerbaijani Defence Minister, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov met with a delegation headed by the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar on Feb.19.

During the meeting, the issues related to the current situation on the front line were discussed and Colonel General Z. Hasanov once again brought to the attention that Azerbaijan's territories recognized by the international community are still under the occupation of Armenia.

The Minister added that the negotiation process continues to be unsuccessful.

Noting that the two armed armies are facing each other on the front line, Colonel General Z. Hasanov did not rule out the resumption of the war at any moment.

The minister noted that instead of investigating the consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the international structures, having made every effort to resolve the conflict completely, would rather tackle the root causes of its emergence.

T. Klaar, in turn, noting the importance of an early and peaceful resolution of the conflict to ensure stability in the South Caucasus region, stressed that the European Union supports the continuation of the negotiations.
