Azerbaijan and Pakistan enjoy warm and friendly relations. These ties are based on our historical traditions, said former Primer Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Aziz, in an exclusive interview to defence.az.

Aziz says both countries demonstrate the same position on international arena.

‘We treat the Kashmiri and Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts identically, and support their resolutions within rule of international law. We lean on each other in the face of these conflicts. I think both sides believe in peace and prospects of settling these conflicts in a peaceful way’, Aziz noted.

The former PM underlined the importance of expanding relations in the fields of commerce and economics between the countries.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan have established ties almost in every field. In my opinion, we need to increase the trade turnover and investments into appropriate projects, which would bring large dividends to our countries, the ex-PM went on to say.

A lot of people come to Azerbaijan from Pakistan, and we also have a large number of people coming to Pakistan from your country. It is a very positive moment as the relations between our countries are expanding. The distance between our countries is not that great either. I think very positively and warmly about Pakistani-Azerbaijani relations. Our ties are multifaceted, deep and are not directed against anybody, stated the former Prime Minister.

Touching upon the military-technical cooperation, Aziz said that there is great progress in this field.

‘I am sure that our countries are keen on expanding military cooperation. Ties between our countries will expand further year in year out. We always have and will support Azerbaijan in armed conflicts’, stressed our interlocutor.
