U.S. President Donald Trump asserted today in Singapore that his country will stop participating in military exercises with South Korea.

'We are going to stop engaging in military maneuvers (...) unless future negotiations do not go as planned', he said in a press round with North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un, held in the hotel Capella of the touristic island of Sentosa.

However, he said it is still not time to take home U.S. soldiers deployed on South Korean territory.

At present, the United States keeps its Seventh Fleet in Asia and carries out numerous military maneuvers, among them the Foal Eagle, held in 24 occasions, the Team Spirit 17 times, combined exercises of reinforcement in time of war in eight opportunities and Ulji Focus Lens in 33 occasions.

In November, last year, naval forces of the United States and South Korea held in the Sea of Japan unprecedented maneuvers in which air carriers USS Nimitz, USS Ronald Reagan and the USS Theodore Roosevelt, all with nuclear capacity, among other units. Pyongyang has denounced that military maneuvers between Washington and Seoul are a general rehearsal to invade North Korean territory.

Between last April and May, the United States and South Korea carried out a joint exercise of the air force that put on the rack the Inter-Korean talks, which were canceled and retaken afterwards, by decision of Kim.

Kim even put in doubt the holding of the summit in Singapur, as he considered the maneuvers were threatening and contributed to the tension in the Korean peninsula.
