The international supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within the internationally recognized borders, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said in an interview to RIA Novosti, Defence.az reported.

Mammadyarov said that the negotiation process on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is being continued for many years through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs: “As noted in the document on its mandate, the Minsk Group’s activity is based on relevant norms and principles of the international law, the proper UN Security Council resolutions and provisions of the Helsinki Final Act. The settlement of the conflict should also be based on those key provisions.”

The minister recalled that the UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which require the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of the occupying forces from the occupied territories of the Azerbaijani Republic: “Fulfillment of those resolutions are inevitable.” He also emphasized the importance of intensifying the substantive negotiations on the settlement of the conflict.

“The stage-by-stage solution proposed by the Minsk Group is already known to everyone. The Russian, U.S. and French presidents have repeatedly stated in joint statements that the status quo based on the fact of occupation is unacceptable. Unfortunately, we are still unable to end the occupation. We need to intensify the substantive negotiations within the framework of the existing formats and actual issues”, Mammadyarov said.

The minister also added that Azerbaijan is focused on the conclusion and official Baku is ready to continue substantive talks towards the settlement of the conflict.
