The state government conducts a coastal defence exercise called Sea Vigil on January 22 and 23.

The objective is to ensure preparedness for precautionary and war time response in sea and coastal areas, an official said.

The first coastal defence exercise, Sea Vigil–19 on Tuesday  and Wednesday comes after Sagar Kavach Goa, a coastal security exercise conducted in January over the last few years.

As a part of TROPEX-2019, a Pan-India exercise code named Sea Vigil with participation from all state agencies related to coastal security has been planned. It aims at implementing a thorough coastal check for 36 hours.

It is coordinated under the aegis of the chief secretary, government of Goa, Navy and Coast Guard. Besides, the Coast Guard and Navy, Goa Police, Goa coastal security intelligence agencies, MPT, Captain of Ports, CISF and customs will be taking active part in the exercise.

In this exercise, intelligence and infiltration will be induced and the alertness and preparedness of all the stakeholders will be tested with respect to successful detection. This exercise provides all stakeholders an opportunity to fine tune their standard operating procedures and test new operational concepts for coastal security, official statement said.
