Turkish defense giant ASELSAN has carried out field tests for the first prototypes of Turkey’s indigenous light-class military unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).

The light-weight UGVs are set to go into mass production during the second half of this year, when users are expected to be able to test them in the scene of action.

The Turkish Presidency categorized the unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to be developed within the scope of the 100-day Action Plan.

The new generation UGVs will allow for the providing of communication and fire support to field personnel.

The heavy-class UGVs will be able to be used as manned vehicles when needed.

ASELSAN designs, develops and manufactures military communication systems, radar and electronic warfare systems, electro-optical systems and defense and weapon systems for the Turkish military, in addition to exporting such systems abroad.

The company is ranked 58th on the list of the world's top 100 defense giants in 2016, according to prestigious U.S. weekly Defense News.
