Deputy Director of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's finance department Serhiy Vynnyk says the ministry will allocate UAH 11.5 billion, or US$428.6 million, in 2019 for the purchase and modernization of military equipment.

"The funds are to be spent on shipments of over 1,600 units of equipment and armaments. They include automotive and armored vehicles, communications equipment, more than 270 units of missile weapons, and over 3,000 units of basic weapons," he said at a briefing on April 11.

In addition, the funds are to be channeled into more than 20 research and development projects. Moreover, UAH 4 billion (US$149 million) is to be earmarked for the overhaul of military equipment and weapons this year. It is planned to repair more than 5,000 units of military equipment, according to the ministry.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Yuriy Brovchenko in late 2018 said that the expenses provided for the purchase of weapons and military equipment in 2019 under the state defense order might grow to UAH 25 billion ($931.8 million). Although it is still planned to allocate about UAH 21 billion ($782.7 million) for the fulfillment of the order, as was the case in 2018.
