Ukraine could have defended Crimea in 2014, as Chief of the General Staff and the commanding officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko said.

He has a positive answer to the question of whether Ukraine had chances to defend Crimea.

“I still think that there were chances. They had to be used,” Muzhenko said.

According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine existed as a state institute in 2014, but it could carry out its functions only thanks to the volunteers.

Russia annexed Crimea after the illegal referendum held on the peninsula in March 2014. Earlier, the Russian military captured all strategic military objects and buildings of the key authoritative bodies. Neither Ukraine nor the rest of the civilized countries recognized the results of the referendum. A number of the European and the world countries, including Ukraine, imposed the economic sanctions against Russia.

As we reported Google corporation began to show occupied Crimea as a part of Russia for Russian users.
