Russia to float out universal nuclear-powered icebreaker on May 25

The Project 22220 universal nuclear-powered icebreaker Ural will be put afloat at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg on May 25, the Shipyard’s press office reported on Tuesday.


"On May 25, 2019, the Project 22220 second serial-produced nuclear-powered icebreaker Ural will be floated out at the Baltic Shipyard," the press office said in a statement.

Project 22220 universal nuclear-powered icebreakers are set to become the world’s most powerful icebreaking vessels. Aside from the Ural, the Baltic Shipyard is also building the icebreakers Arktika and Sibir.

After the construction of these vessels is over, the icebreakers of this Project are due to provide for year-round shipping in the Arctic.
