The newest armored vehicle Taifun-PO (based on the Taifun-K) will be demonstrated at the Clear Sky army contest for the first time. Taifun-PO is designed to transport the Igla man-portable air defense missile systems, the press service of the Southern Military District (YuVO) said.

"Two Taifun-PO pieces will undergo performance trials on the second day of the all-army stage of the Clear Sky contest held at the Yeysk range of the Air Defense Training Center of the Ground Troops. The new vehicle will increase the mobility and raise the efficiency of air defense units in repelling air targets of the conditional adversary," it said. The all-army contest of air defense units will end on May 25. The team, which shows the best result, will represent the Russian Armed Forces at the international Clear Sky contest in August.

The Taifun is a family of enhanced protection armored vehicles developed by a pool of over 120 enterprises, which include the Ural Automobile Works, Kamaz truck maker, the Yaroslavl Motor Enterprise and the R&D Institute of Steel (the vehicle's armor). The Taifun-K model - initial variant of this armored vehicle - was demonstrated for the first time at a practice range in 2011 and at the Victory Day Parade in Moscow's Red Square on May 9, 2014.
