Japan is ready to contribute to reducing tensions in the Middle East, including the situation with Iran, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said at a press conference following the results of the G20 summit in Osaka.

Commenting on the issue of journalists, Abe said that during the summit many countries had touched upon the situation around Iran. In particular, concern was expressed about attacks on ships, as well as the incident with the downed drone: "The growth of tension in this region is disturbing," said the Prime Minister of Japan, recalling that earlier in June he had visited Iran, where he met with leadership of the country.

Abe said that during the summit, the leaders of the G20 countries expressed their readiness to help reduce tensions in the Middle East: "Including Japan, as a country that has good relations with the EU and the US."
