The German government has decided to continue its forces' military training mission in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to assist the country with the war against the Islamic State (IS).

According to a statement by the German government, the country's forces will continue until October, 2020, as part of the US-led coalition.

Berlin, however, would reduce the number of its troops in Iraq from 800 to 700 as the security situation has improved in the country, the statement added.

Germany, as part of the coalition, has been providing the Iraqi as well as the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces with military training and advice in the past few years.
