Turkey raises defence and security spending by nearly 16% in 2020

Turkish defence and security spending for fiscal year 2020 (FY 2020) is forecast to reach around TRY119.2 billion (USD20.6 billion), a 15.9% increase compared to 2019, according to the 2020-22 medium-term financial plan published in the official gazette on 10 October after being endorsed by the presidency.


The Ministry of National Defence will receive the largest share: TRY53.9 billion, an increase of nearly 16% compared to FY 2019. This is followed by the General Directorate of Security (police), with TRY38.9 billion, a 15.7% increase from FY 2019, and the Gendarmerie General Command, with around TRY22.9 billion, a 17.2% increase from FY 2019.
