Oshkosh Defence will deliver JLTV Joint Light Tactical Vehicles to Lithuania and Slovenia

According to a statement released on the U.S. Department of Defence on February 14, 2020, the American Company Oshkosh Defence LLC was awarded a $407,335,834 modification (P00291) to contract W56HZV-15-C-0095 to procure Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) and associated kits. For this contract, Oshkosh Defence will deliver JLTVs to U.S. Marine, Lithuania and Slovenia.


On November 21, 2019, the Defence Materiel Agency of Lithuania under the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence and the U.S. Department of Defence signed the Letter of Offer and Acceptance concerning procurement of 200 units of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).

In August 2019, the U.S. State Department has announced a possible Foreign Military Sale to Lithuania of five hundred Joint Light Tactical Vehicles with support for an estimated cost of $170.8 million.

The Government of Lithuania has requested to buy five hundred Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, M1278A1 Heavy Guns Carriers. Also included are Baseline Integration Kits; Ballistic Kits Armor; Explosive Formed Protection Kit; Shot Detection Boomerang Kits; Shot Detection, Boomerang III; GPS Stand Alone kits; Network Switch - 8 port; M153 Common Remote Weapon Stations (CROWS); CROWS Baseline v2 Integration Kit; MK-93 Weapons Mounts; M2 QCB .50 CAL Machine Guns; M230 TAC-FLIR Systems; Opaque Armor (windows); Basic Issue Item Kits; Winch Kits; Flat Tow Kits; Run-Flat Kits; Spare Tire Kits; Combat Bumper Kits; Duramax Turbo Engine with Allison 6 speed automatic transmission and 4x4 TAK-4i Independent suspension systems; personnel training and training equipment; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support. The total estimated program cost is $170.8 million.

In December 2018, Slovenia had signed an Intergovernmental Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) with the U.S. Government for the purchase of 38 Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV). The value of the contract for the purchase of 38 JLTV vehicles, taking into account administrative costs, tools, spare parts and training, is EUR 15 million.

The Oshkosh joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) was developed by American Company Oshkosh Defence for the US Army and Marine Corps, to replace the aging fleet of High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV/Humvee).

In August 2015, the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has awarded Oshkosh Defence, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, a $6.7 billion firm fixed price production contract to manufacture the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).

The JLTV family now consists of three base vehicle platforms, Utility (JLTV-UTL), Close Combat Weapons Carrier (JLTV-CCWC) and General Purpose (JLTV-GP). The Utility base vehicle platform is a two-door configuration, the General Purpose and Close Combat Weapons Carrier base vehicle platforms are a four-door configuration. Standard U.S. military M-designators are applied base vehicle platforms when outfitted to a specific Mission Package Configuration. These currently are:

- M1278 Heavy Guns Carrier General Purpose (JLTV-GP): base vehicle platform in Heavy Guns Carrier Mission Package Configuration
- M1279 Utility - Utility (JLTV-UTL): base vehicle platform in Utility Mission Package Configuration
- M1280 General Purpose - General Purpose (JLTV-GP): base vehicle platform in General Purpose Mission Package Configuration
- M1281 Close Combat Weapons Carrier - Close Combat Weapons Carrier (JLTV-CCWC): base vehicle platform in Close Combat Weapons Carrier Mission Package Configuration
