Entire responsibility for the current situation at the frontline and its further development rests entirely with the military-political leadership of Armenia, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of the Department for Foreign Policy Affairs of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said.

As reported earlier by Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan, there are killed and wounded among the civilian population as a result of the intensive shelling by the enemy of the Gapanly village of Terter region, the Chiragli and Orta Gervend villages of Aghdam region, the Alkhanli and Shukurbeyli villages of Fizuli region, and the Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region. Serious damage was caused to civilian infrastructure.

Shelling by the Armenian armed forces on civilians and facilities densely populated on the frontline was deliberate .

A number of houses and civilian objects were severely damaged.

Armenia continues intensive firing on our positions and settlements on the frontline zone.

Armenia's deliberate targeting of settlements and civilians is a gross violation of the international humanitarian law, including the 1949 Geneva Conventions. Targeting civilians is a tactic included in the combat readiness of the Armenian armed forces. Khojaly Genocide committed in February 1992 is the most obvious example of this.

In accordance with the international law, strikes on the positions of the Azerbaijani Army by the Armenian armed forces, firing at civilians and objects with large-caliber weapons are another act of Armenian military aggression and use of force against Azerbaijan.

The Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan are carrying out the necessary counter-offensive operations to prevent Armenia's next military aggression and ensure the security of the civilian population.

Azerbaijan has repeatedly warned the international community on Armenia's preparations for a new act of aggression and war.

Azerbaijan repeatedly stated that Armenia's ongoing military aggression against Azerbaijan, the presence of Armenian armed forces in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan is a major threat to regional peace and stability.

In time of the general debates of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly and the global fight against COVID-19, the political and military leadership of Armenia has resorted to another military adventure and provocation. With these actions, the Armenian leadership once again demonstrates disrespect to the international law, the UN Charter and the international community.

The responsibility for the current situation at the frontline and its further development rests entirely with the military-political leadership of Armenia, said Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan.
