"At the official invitation of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, I visited this country with my colleagues. We had a meeting with Mike Pompeo", Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said in an interview with reporters in Washington, Defence.az reports.

"The main topic of discussion was the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We exchanged views on the current situation and potential solutions to the problem", he said.

"The United States is one of the co-chairs of the Minsk Group. The US interest in the issue, mediation proposals and steps to resolve the issue were also discussed. Then I met with Robert O'Brien, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group".

The Minister added that the meetings have been beneficial in terms of conveying the realities of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's just position to the other side, and holding useful discussions around the issue.

"Of course, we must be realistic. It is impossible to solve the problems accumulated over thirty years in one meeting. However, we have always shown that the Azerbaijani side is constructive. The Azerbaijani side has always supported a political solution to the conflict. The Azerbaijani side does not propose making military operations as an absolute condition. I think that we have both a reason to hold all these meetings, to convey the realities of Azerbaijan and we have something to say. Our position is fair. Therefore, we consider these meetings useful".
