Lockheed Martin to build three MH-60R aircraft for the US Navy

According to information published by the U.S. Department of Defense on June 29, 2021, Lockheed Martin Corp., Owego, New York, is awarded a $129,000,000 modification (P00027) to previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract N00019-19-C-0013. This modification increases the scope for the production and delivery of three MH-60R aircraft as replacement-in-kind for the Navy.


Work will be performed in Owego, New York (52%); Stratford, Connecticut (40%); and Troy, Alabama (8%), and is expected to be completed in May 2025.

Fiscal 2021 aircraft procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $129,000,000 will be obligated at time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

MH-60R Seahawk is a multi-mission helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft​. It is equipped with a highly sophisticated combat system designed to employ Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and the Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedo. The primary missions of the 'Romeo' helicopter are anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare. Secondary missions include search and rescue, logistics support, personnel transport, and medical evacuation.

MH-60R helicopter is powered by two General Electric T700-GE-401C turboshaft engines rated at 1,425kW. It has a maximum and cruise speed of 267 km/h and 168 km/h respectively, with a maximum flying range of 834 km. It weighs around 6,895 kg and has a maximum take-off weight of 10,659 kg.
